Thanks to my Apparel and Textile Merchandising program at Eastern Michigan University I was able to take a week long course exploring the fashion markets of New York City! For anyone who wants to work in the fashion industry, you must experience NYC! It was such an amazing place and it was a completely different world than my home state of Michigan. Everything is very fast pace and there is so much to do and see. We stayed at the beautiful Hilton Garden Inn located in the Flower District. On our first night we ate dinner at Ellen’s Stardust Diner which was a great place to go for the experience. My food wasn’t the best and it was a little pricey for a diner, but the singing waitstaff was outstanding and the milkshakes were delicious! During my free time, I did A LOT of shopping! Soho is a must for shopping. 5th Ave made me melt with all of the designer window shopping I did. And of course there is nothing like Times Square. For the actual course we attended three appointments a day for three days in a row where different fashion markets would tell us about what they did and how they got there. It really opened up my eyes to just how many different careers there are in the fashion industry, the possibilities are endless. I definitely left my heart in New York.
Much Love, Kayla
