NYFW Review: Yuna Yang F/W ’17

NYFW Review: Yuna Yang F/W ’17

A couple weeks ago, I attended New York Fashion Week for the first time and it was amazing! Literally a dream come true. I was invited to Yuna Yang‘s show at the Gotham Comedy Club in Chelsea, Manhattan. It was a packed house, but the dimly lit room had beautiful music playing and I also received a gift bag with soap inside. The collection was mesmerizing and I loved it’s message of “light shines brighter in the darkness.”  Yuna Yang was inspired by women protesting in the streets of South Korea and the US Women’s March. She wanted to celebrates women who make their social and political voices heard: “the power of one person holding a candle.”

The collection features playful, bright prints to represent light and then they are juxtaposed with darker elegant pieces to represent the shadows. The mixture of different styles was refreshing including silk loungewear, chic separates, and beautiful trench coats. The finale dress was a deep red evening gown that really stood apart from the cooler color palette of the rest of the collection. With plays on watercolor prints and mixtures of florals, lace, and embroidery, the garments were artistic and graceful.

The models were styled with slicked back hair pulled into silver clips, statement earrings, and various styles of flat shoes. I thought it was a very clean look and really contributed to the delightful aesthetic. There were also feather details found on many of the looks, which I felt added to the whimsical and lightheartedness of the “light” theme.
