Although it’s November and here in New York it’s getting colder by the day, there is no reason that we can’t still get some use out of our favorite summer clothing items. Sure, it might be time to pack up the denim shorts, but when it comes to dresses there are a lot of ways to style them for the fall and even the winter. Here are a few styling tips for rocking summer dresses into the colder months.
Layer with a T-shirt or sweater. Since it wasn’t too cold the day I took these photos I just layered my dress with a lace T-shirt underneath. Another cute option is to put a cropped sweatshirt over a dress.
Wear tights or leggings. I love wearing tights in the fall. They’re a fun way to add some texture or color to a look. Since my dress is bright red I just paired it with some plain charcoal leggings. They definitely kept me warm.
Add boots or booties. Shoes can make a huge difference and everyone knows that boots and booties are the epitome of fall fashion. I’ve had these black booties for years and they’re one of my go-to’s in the fall. The silver buckle coordinated with the silver hardware on my dress and purse.
Tone down bright colors with muted or neutral tones. Since my dress is bright red, which is a great summer color, I decided to pair it with mostly black to give it more of a fall feel. Red and black also contrast really well so by keeping the rest of the color pallet simple, it allows the dress to be the focal point of the outfit. Black, brown, and gray are perfect for layering with a more vibrant dress because it adds some contrast and tones down the overall look.
