4 Things I’m Thankful for This Year

Happy Thanksgiving! This year I stayed in NYC instead of going home to Michigan. Me and my roommate will be cooking for ourselves today and just relaxing. Without all the busyness of traveling, I decided to take some time to reflect. I have so many things to be thankful for, but I narrowed it down to a few major ones to share with you guys.

My Career

If you read my October Favorites + Reflection then you saw that I got a new job recently. My new position as associate commerce editor at TODAY.com is my second full-time job in journalism. It still amazes me that I get to write for a living (and now I get to shop and write at work). I’ve wanted this career since I was 8 years old and I am so incredibly grateful to see all of my hard work pay off this year.

My Support System

It would be pretty impossible for me to be where I am today if I didn’t have such a strong team of loving family and friends behind me. My parents, my sister, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and friends take the time out of their days to read my posts, watch my videos, and give me advice when I need it. I am SO appreciative. And one person who always has my back no matter what is my best friend and roommate, Kailena. I am so blessed to have a partner in crime who I can always rely on when it comes to paying the rent, a well-needed therapy session, or just a good laugh after a long day at work.

My Apartment

Mine and Kailena’s apartment is an actual shoebox. It gets WAY too hot, my stuff can barley fit in my room, and it has a severe lack of natural lighting. BUT, it’s home. It’s the first place in NYC that I’ve felt comfortable. I like watching Netflix on the futon in the living room, cooking Alfredo in the kitchen, and filming YuTube videos from my bed surrounded by twinkle lights. Having your own place where you can unwind and be comfortable is always something to be thankful for.

My Perseverance

When I was in grad school, I was so scared that I would never find an internship. But, right before my final semester began, I got a call from one of my favorite magazines, NYLON. When I first moved to New York and I was interning at CafeMom, I was terrified that I wouldn’t find a job. But, after struggling for nearly nine months, they offered me my first real journalism job. And when I was apartment hopping for about a year, I was concerned that I might never find a place in NYC where I would be comfortable, and now here I am in a two bedroom apartment, right outside of Manhattan, with my best friend. I came close to giving up a few times and I’m super grateful that I didn’t. God truly granted me the perseverance I needed to make my dreams come true!
