It’s been two weeks since my last blog post and during that time things have been WILD. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, all anyone can talk about right now is COVID-19 aka the coronavirus. This new illness has caused a global pandemic and it’s definitely a very anxious and scary time. Although the death rate of COVID-19 is only about 3-4%, according to the World Health Organization, it’s still very important for us to stop this disease from spreading so we don’t continue to lose people.

In addition to families who are experiencing loss and illness, this pandemic has also led to A LOT of cancellations: sporting events, concerts, races, conferences, and even schools and restaurants being shut down. Personally, I’ve been working from home since Monday, March 9. So, what else can we do to stop the spread of COVID-19? Well, there are a few key things: wash your hands, don’t touch your face, cover your mouth when you cough, and maintain social distancing.

What is social distancing?

According to The Atlantic, social distancing can be described as “a conscious effort to reduce close contact between people.” This means staying in your house as much as possible, avoiding large gatherings, and when you do go out, trying to stay a few feet apart from other people. This is by no means an easy task for most of us, but it’s totally necessary.

As most of you know, I’m the type of person who always has plans and events to attend. But, right now I have basically zero plans for at least the next couple of weeks. As I mentioned above, I’ve already been working from home, all of my typical press events and social plans have been postponed, and I plan on spending a lot of time in my apartment. This can cause a lot of anxiety and stress for people, including me, so I wanted to put together a list of enjoyable things we can do to keep us distracted and entertained during this period of social distancing.

    • Of course, if your income is being effected right now by COVID-19, then I know shopping may not be the best choice. However, if you do find yourself wanting to buy some things, check out small businesses that may be suffering right now.
  • Have an at-home spa day
    • Bubble bath, face mask, mani pedi, the works!
  • Practice some new makeup or hair looks you’ve been wanting to try
    • Even if you can’t go out to show them off, you could always film a tutorial for your social media or take some cute pictures
  • Call your family and friends to see how they’re doing
    • Stressful times like this can be particularly harder and scarier for some people, so make sure you’re checking in with your loved ones
  • Play boardgames / put together a puzzle with your family or roommate(s)
