Between being in Michigan with my family, celebrating my 27th birthday, and my little sister’s 13th birthday, my year has been off to a pretty slow start as far as my brand goes. I’m not complaining because I think we’re all feeling pretty burnt out from 2020, but I def think it’s time to get my head in the game. I’ve made major improvements to my blog, social media, and overall brand in the last couple years and I feel like now more than ever is my time to grow and take things to the next level. That’s why I’m excited to be setting some major content goals for 2021. And I wanted to share them in case you find them helpful for your own goal setting.
Here’s a breakdown of my overall output plan:
And here are my content goals for the year:
1. Reach 10k followers on Instagram
This has been a goal of mine for a while, but I never really manifested it. Honestly, this goal intimidates me. I’ve read about tons of strategies, I love taking quality photos, and I put a lot of thought into my captions. But, growing on Instagram is hard. That’s why this year I decided to put it at the top of my content goals.
You may wonder, “Why is it such a big deal to reach 10k, followers aren’t everything?” That’s very true, but this milestone unlocks the “swipe up” feature, which would allow me to share more links to blog post, affiliate links, etc. — which leads to more page views to my work and eventually more money too. It also opens up more doors for me when it comes to paid brand deals.
2. Write my first e-book
I’m really excited about this one because writing a book has always been a goal of mine. And thanks to the Internet, it’s become pretty easy to self-publish. My overall goal is always to inspire people and help them in any way I can, so I feel like writing an informative, yet fun e-book is the clear next step for me.
3. Create at least two additional digital products
In addition to an e-book, I would also like to create some templates and/or tip sheets. There are so many possibilities in the world of digital products. Let me know if you have any ideas for tips or templates you would find helpful from me!
4. Revamp my newsletter
I’ve been doing my newsletter for about two years now and I definitely think it’s time for a refresh. Make sure you subscribe here!
5. Work on my SEO strategy & repurpose old content
I have years of old blog posts and I honestly do a terrible job of repurposing them. I would love to get all of my posts organized into a spreadsheet and update them over time according to SEO best practices. I’ve also been working to utilize Pinterest more for driving traffic to older posts.
6. Design & sell more merch
I recently decided to launch merch! It’s been such a learning experience so far and I have SO many more ideas. I can’t wait to share more products with you all.
7. Redesign my professional website
I have a separate site, kaylacboyd.com, that I use as a portfolio for all of my journalism work. I haven’t really touched it in a while and I’d really like to give it an overhaul.
8. Update my media kit
My media kit is pretty out of date and doesn’t get as much use as it could. I really need to sit down and redo it so I feel confident sending it to brands and pitching myself more often.
9. Create a sneaker series
For those who didn’t know, I LOVE sneakers and plus size street style is my main content focus. In an effort to further develop my niche, I would really love to do more sneaker content both on the blog and on social media.
10. Create a travel series
Another passion of mine is travel, but I’ve been really hesitant about sharing travel content due to COVID. I’d like to find a way to get back to sharing it, while still being sensitive to the pandemic.
11. Revamp my Youtube strategy
I have worked really hard to build my YouTube the last couple years, but I feel like it needs some more focus. I really want to figure out what my goal is on that platform and how I can be better on it — without overextending myself.
12. Exceed 1000 followers on TikTok
I can’t lie, I’ve really been slacking on TikTok the last few months. But I still really enjoy it! I want to get back in the swing of things and increase my following from 600+ to 1000+.
13. Create new headers for my social pages
This is a smaller task, but still worth jotting down. My social pages (YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter) could really use a design refresh. It’s not a top priority since none of them are more than a year out of date, but it still would be nice to create something a bit more cohesive.
What are some of your business or content goals this year?
Thank you for sharing this. It was very helpful as I have never set content goals and this gives me a guideline or template.
