Last night I had the most magnificent experience! I saw Motown the Musical at the Fisher Theater in Detroit! The broadway show was absolutely amazing. All of the actors were phenomenal and the musical just made everyone feel so great! The play told the story of the history of Motown and how it was founded. It featured reenactments of all the best songs and performances by Motown’s legendary artists like Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Miracles and more. I learned so much about Motown, black history, and the city of Detroit. I suggest everyone who enjoys theater or Motown to go see it if you have the chance! I went through my school, EMU, so the tickets were only $25 and I’m even more fortunate because my McNair Scholars Program paid for our tickets so I essentially got a $75 ticket for free. It was such a cultural, enjoyable night.
Before the show…
Before the show, we waited for the bus to arrive in our Student Center so I took a walk around one of our school’s art galleries. The exhibit was called New Fiber. All of this work was done by EMU faculty and staff.
Motown the Musical
We took a pretty nice charter bus for the 40 minute ride from Ypsilanti to Detroit. The Fisher Theater was beautiful.
