August 2018 Favorites + Reflection

August was full of WORK. Seriously, I worked so many hours at my big girl job. I have to meet certain goals and they’re higher than what I’m used to so I had to put in a lot of extra time to make sure I got to where I needed to be. Luckily, I did it! But, other than work, I did still get into some fun things last month! I didn’t read a book this month, but I did see a Broadway play! You can read about that and my other August faves below!

August Favorites:

Beauty Products: In celebration of Nicki Minaj finally releasing a new album, I’ve been using an oldie, but goodie perfume: Pink Friday. I am also obsessed with my Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara from their adorable mermaid collection.

Movies: I saw Crazy Rich Asians in theaters and it was amazing! One of the best modern day love stories I’ve seen in a long time. If you haven’t seen it, then make sure you do! I also watched To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix and that was also wonderful! It was everything I could want in a rom com and I want to watch it again this weekend.

TV Shows: I’ve watched almost all of Drake & Josh on Hulu. I loved that show when I was younger and it’s a fun thing to watch before bed because it’s funny and doesn’t involve a lot of thinking lol.

Theater: I saw Mean Girls the Musical on Broadway and it was epic! They included all of the classic lines from the film, added some killer vocals and choreography, and made it much more feminist in the most subtle ways. I really enjoyed it and I definitely appreciate some of the more positive spins. For example, there was a small bathroom scene at the end where Regina and Kady have a heart to heart at the Spring Fling. My favorite performance was probably Damian! He was awesome.

Songs: Nicki Minaj’s whole Queen album is a BOP! I really love it and you can tell she put a lot of energy into it. My favorite tracks are “Bed”, “LLC”, “Good Form”, and of course “Barbie Dreams.”

Places: This month I went to Michigan for a quick trip to visit family. I attended my Aunt Steph’s wedding at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. I also went to my cousin Ashley’s baby shower. Back in NYC, not only did I hit up a Broadway show, but I also spent an evening shopping at the Westfield World Trade Center for the first time. I celebrated my best friend Kailena’s birthday at the end of the month. We had a pretty chill night at a pool hall in Queens and it was a really good time.

August Reflection:

As I mentioned above, I worked a lot in August. It’s definitely not easy to meet my goals at work lately and I have felt a lot of stress. However, going forward I just want to remember that I’m working to live, not living to work. I think it’s extremely important to work hard and persevere, and I am beyond blessed to have my job, but I also want to make sure that I’m playing hard too. Having balance is vital. As important as money and stability is, we should never take our happiness for granted. <3
