Concert Review: Lizzo’s ‘Cuz I Love You Too’ Tour

I enjoy concerts, however, I wouldn’t say I’m someone who goes to a ton of them or is willing to pay hundreds of dollars for the best seats. I’ve seen Nicki Minaj in concert twice, Lil’ Wayne a couple times, and all of my teenage heartthrobs from the Millennium Tour more times than I care to admit. My point being, I usually have to really love someone to go to a concert. Enter: Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You Too” tour.

I first heard Lizzo in either 2016 or 2017 while I was at grad school in Syracuse. My friend Bri and I would hang out and jam to “Good as Hell” while we were getting ready or pregaming for a night out. However, it wasn’t until this year when me, and the rest of the world, started to really appreciate Lizzo for the multitalented, groundbreaking queen she is.

Attending Lizzo’s ‘Cuz I Love You Too’ Tour

On September 24th, my friends Rachel and Genny joined me to see the body positive, self-love guru perform live at a sold out Radio City Music Hall. A singer named Ari Lennox opened the show and DJ Sophia Eris kept the energy flowing throughout the night. Everyone in the audience was dressed in sequins and glitter. I felt surrounded by confidence and acceptance from people of all different colors, genders, sexualities, and backgrounds.

When Lizzo took the stage, not one person remained in their seat. She performed many songs from her album, including “Boys,” “Jerome,” and “Soulmate.” Followed by her big hit records, “Truth Hurts” and “Juice.” She absolutely slayed in a metallic gold bodysuit. Followed by a feathery robe. And later, a pair of sparkly pants that read “100%” on her butt and “That B*tch” on her legs. Iconic!

And throughout the whole over-an-hour-long set, she barley took any breaks! There was no intermission, just a couple of small interludes where she would do a quick change and her dancers would command the stage. Her backup dancers, which she referred to as “the big girls” were also incredible. From shaking their butt down into the splits to nailing synchronized routines without ever looking tired, the whole thing was so much fun to watch. Lizzo twerked, sang, rapped, and even played the flute. She preached to us about loving ourselves and finding the strength within to overcome obstacles. You could truly feel her genuine spirit and appreciation for her fans.

I really appreciate everything Lizzo has done. And not just in her music — which obviously has a way of making us all feel like THAT B*TCH. But in her perseverance, her vulnerability, and her sense of humor. Her ability to radiate confidence in a world that loves to hate on black women and plus size bodies. She never gave up. She’s a true star and I had the best time seeing her in person!

Oh and you know I had to buy this amazing shirt!

What I Wore

Of course, I wanted to wear something fun. I went with a new snakeskin print midi dress from Walmart’s new Scoop line. I layered it with a black lace tee. And for accessories, I went with a heart-shaped crossbody bag, translucent hoop earrings, and my Ozweego Adidas. I put my hair in some space buns and rocked a bold purple lip.
