Happy spooky season! Halloween is around the corner, so I wanted to share some items that I really love that get me excited for Halloween. Although I don’t enjoy scary stuff or horror films (I’m such a baby), I do like to dress up and watch non-scary Halloween movies. I also love the fun of going out with friends, eating candy, and just embracing your weirdness around this time of year. So, here are the things I’m currently obsessed with, in honor of the spookiest time of year.
“Banish Bad Mentality” Witch Pouch
I got this cute little carryall pouch from Society6. The illustration on it was created by a very talented artist I went to high school with, Carolyn Whittico. Her aesthetic is very dark and spooky, but still super cute, which makes practically all of her art products perfect for Halloween time.
Skeleton Print Lounge Set
This set is from the gender-inclusive underwear brand TomboyX. It’s cute and super comfy, so I basically live in it while I’m home for the entire month of October. It’s hard to find full-coverage undies and lounge bras when your plus-size, so I really appreciate how awesome these fit!
Black and Orange Lipsticks
A black lipstick is always a good idea to keep in your makeup collection because you never know when you’re going to want to rock an edgy look. And I think that there’s no better time to pull out the confidence to rock a black lip than late October. I’ve used the budget-friendly black lipstick from Katy Perry’s Covergirl collection, but it’s now discontinued. I would suggest trying black lipsticks from e.l.f. or KVD Beauty.
I also think orange lipstick is fun to wear this time of year! I’ve worn the “Pumpkin” lip kit from Kylie Cosmetics, but that shade is no longer available. You can check out orange lipsticks from Fenty Beauty, Haus Labs, or Mented Cosmetics.
Halloween-Themed Scrunchies
The two giant scrunchies above are from a Black woman-owned small business, Jane Dottie Vintage. The fun prints make these such an easy way to add a spooky touch to your look. They’re perfect for throwing your hair up in a messy bun or just wearing on your wrist.
Black Velvet Accessories
I love wearing velvet in general, but I feel like black velvet is especially ideal for this time of year. I have a couple of black velvet chokers; one has a moon on it and the other has a creepy eye on it โ which is from the book in Hocus Pocus (I got to keep it after a Halloween photoshoot I did for Revelist). I also have a black velvet scrunchie that I use pretty much daily.
“Basic Witches” Lifestyle Guide Book
I’m in the midst of reading this book, Basic Witches: How to Summon Success, Banish Drama, and Raise Hell with Your Coven, and so far I really like it. It’s not about actual witch craft, it’s more of a fun lifestyle guide with a witchy theme. I’m not personally someone who would mess around with witchcraft (I am a woman of God lol), but I always thought the witches I grew up with in pop culture, like Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Charmed, Harry Potter, and Hocus Pocus, were always so fun, weird, and magical (duh). This book touches on that nostalgia factor and uses feminist undertones to create a really entertaining book about general life stuff like beauty tips, friendship, and more.
Hocus Pocus Sweatshirt
THIS. SWEATSHIRT. It’s literally one of my favorites. I’ve had it for three years now and I wear it as much as I can every October. (In case you guys haven’t guessed by now, Hocus Pocus is my favorite Halloween movie.) The crewneck features cartoon drawings of the Sanderson sisters. It’s cute and colorful, which is totally my aesthetic, without being too cheesy. Major spooky season win!
Snapchat Ghost Backpack
This Snapchat logo backpack was actually given to my by my best friend and she got it from free for work. Apparently, people used to be able to buy it from Amazon, but it’s sold out. ๐ I also read a story that Bhad Bhabie was carrying this bag earlier this year lol. Anywho, I think it’s fun, cute and the perfect accessory for spooky season!
