Christmas is just a few days away and there is so much to love about this time of year. The family time, the holiday-themed snacks, the shopping, and the overall good vibes (or shall I say Christmas Spirit) that seems to take over. And another thing I love about the holidays is, of course, the gorgeous lights and decor.
When I was a kid — and let’s face it, even now to this day — I had a fear of the dark. I’ve always slept with the TV on or a night light on or something. So, seeing pretty twinkling lights filling up the dark streets just feels so hopeful and happy. When I heard that they were covering Randall’s Island Park in artistic displays of lights and lanterns, I figured it would be pretty cool to check out.
Last weekend, my friend Rachel and I took an Uber over to Randall’s Island in the evening and walked through the immersive wonderland of LuminoCity. It was cold outside, but as long as you’re properly bundled, it’s 100% worth it. The lanterns were designed in all kinds of incredible shapes and creatures, from dinosaurs to castles to an archway of donuts.
The LuminoCity Festival is happening now through January 5th. Tickets range from $19-$88, with regular general admission priced at $38. You can walk through the park at your own pace. There’s also a heated tent area where you can buy hot beverages, snacks, and souvenirs while you warm up. It’s a great spot for New Yorkers, tourists, families… and pretty much anyone who loves Christmas lights.
