Plus Size Halloween Costumes Inspired by the ’90s

Plus Size Halloween Costumes Inspired by the ’90s

Happy Spooky Season! Although Halloween is going to be a little different this year due to COVID, I still wanted to have some fun! So next week, I’m having a few friends over for a Halloween movie night. In addition to that, I thought it would be fun to shoot a little look book of plus size Halloween costumes. And because I love a theme, I went with things I loved during my ’90s childhood as inspiration!

The first three costumes are people/characters I’ve wanted to be for years! I was so happy to find both the Cher and Sailor Moon costumes in plus sizes. Finding plus size Halloween costumes that are actually cute can be a struggle, but at least it’s slowly getting better. The Winifred Sanderson costume is from an old shoot I did for Revelist, but I loved it and thought it was worth including. All of these were so much fun to put together!

Cher from Clueless

Clueless was released in 1995 and it’s one of my favorite movies from the decade. I love Cher’s style and the movie is just funny and lighthearted. It’s definitely a rom-com I enjoy rewatching again and again.

Sailor Moon

The anime show Sailor Moon aired in the US in 1995. As a kid, I absolutely loved it! I watched it almost daily on Cartoon Network and I had the movies on VHS. I still love watching it once in a while to this day. I’m a sucker for kick butt female heroes and I love the love and friendship at the core of the series.

Scary Spice

Of course, everyone knows the Spice Girls are one of the most iconic girl groups of the ’90s… and of all time. They released their first album in 1996. I’ve always loved Scary Spice for her style and attitude. I’m a lover of animal prints and big, curly hair so this costume was a perfect fit for me. So much so that I actually put it together with things I already had in my closet!

Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus is my favorite Halloween Movie. It was released in 1993 and I’ve seen it SO many times. I’ve probably watched it almost every October since I was in elementary school. I like Winifred because she was the leader, and definitely the most creepy of the sisters.
