“Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” at The Brooklyn Museum

I’ve seen many fashion exhibits during my time in New York City and this is one of the most incredible ones I’ve seen. Honestly, it might be THE most incredible. As someone who studied fashion in college and still geeks out over it, I had a pretty decent knowledge of Christian Dior’s work. However, I honestly wasn’t aware of the range the House of Dior has exhibited over the years. The “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibit was beautifully curated and did a great job of walking you through Dior’s history and highlights, while letting each garment or collection really shine.

From Marilyn Monroe to Michelle Obama, so many iconic women have worn Dior for huge moments in their lives and careers. From sophisticated black gowns to vibrant, shimmery dresses Dior has done it all. And done it well. The signature “New Look” consisting of a cinched waist, rounded shoulders, and a full skirt was very prevalent. But, it was also cool to see how it has evolved over the years. The exhibit features over two hundred haute couture garments, photographs, sketches, accessories, and more from Dior, as well as his successors: Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco FerrΓ©, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri.

The exhibit is running through February 20th and it’s located on the third floor or the Brooklyn Museum. Last summer, I saw the KAWS exhibit there, and they never disappoint when it comes to their special exhibits. If you’re unable to catch the exhibit before it closes, you can also purchase the coffee table book that showcases the pieces.

– What I Wore –

Since I don’t own any Dior (it’s a bit out of my price range lol), I wanted to wear something chic and neutral. I went with a faux leather midi skirt from the Rachel Comey x Target collection, a tan long-sleeve crop top, a suede jacket, my Gucci belt, and black booties.
