This year for my birthday, my friends and I went on a winter weekend trip to Killington, Vermont. It was my first ski trip ever ā I even tried snowboarding! I am not usually one for winter sports, so this was all very new to me. I did a ton of research on what I would need and I feel like we were honestly super prepared. If you’re not used to going on active winter trips but you’re considering it, I would totally recommend doing it at least once! And if you have no clue what to pack, here are some ideas for what to wear on a ski trip.
What To Pack (Quick List)
- Warm coat
- Snow pants or snowsuit
- Snow boots
- Knit hat / headband / earmuffs / ski mask
- Ski goggles and sunglasses
- Thermal tops / turtlenecks / long-sleeve T-shirts
- Thermal bottoms / leggings
- Sweatpants
- Sweatshirt(s)
- Waterproof gloves
- Backup pair of gloves
- Ski socks / crew socks
Snow Gear
First of all, you will definitely need snow pants and a good winter coat. You can also go the snowsuit route, which I did, because they’re super cute. But I will say, I had a VERY hard time finding plus size snowsuits. There are some options on Etsy, but I ended up going with one from Dolls Kill. I was very happy with it, but I did later realize that separate snow pants can give you a bit more mobility if you are planning on snowboarding or skiing. Gloves, hats, and scarves may seem obvious, but you really don’t want to forget them. And speaking of gloves, I def recommend having a waterproof pair and a knit pair you can easily keep in your pocket.
Snow boots are also something that seem obvious, but are very important. They can be pricey, so you’ll want to make sure you’re buying those ahead of time if you don’t already have some. And make sure they’re waterproof! My silver snow boots are from Nine West and were on sale for under $100. You can also check out shoe stores like DSW and Zappos or popular winter boot brands like Moon Boot or Ugg.
Layers, Layers, Layers
When you’re thinking about what to wear on a ski trip you’ll want to remember one word: Layers! Whether you’re taking part in winter sports or not, you’re bound to get wet at some point being out in the snow. Layers allow you to strip the wet clothes off and still be warm and dry. Especially if you’ll be going to dinner or getting drinks at the ski lodge. I packed some solid tanks, turtlenecks, and leggings for base layers. Then I would add my snowsuit or a fleece and sweatpants.
This cow print fleece is from Shein (similar) and the matching hat was actually found in mall at Windsor.
