“200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries” Louis Vuitton Exhibit

“200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries” Louis Vuitton Exhibit

A few months ago, I checked out the “200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries” Louis Vuitton exhibition in New York City. NYC was the fourth and final destination on the exhibit’s international tour after stops in France, Singapore, and Los Angeles. Louis Vuitton has a history of curating amazing exhibits — back in 2018, I went to see their “Voguez, Volez, Voyagez” exhibit at the New York Stock Exchange. This free exhibit, which closed in December 2022, spanned over multiple floors of the landmark Barney’s building on Madison Avenue in Manhattan. It served as a celebration of the founder’s 200th birthday.

The exhibit was so large and so well done that I was surprised it was free! And the concept was really unique and clever. The rooms were filled with 200 “trunks” in the same dimensions as the original LV trunk that was crafted back in the 1850s. Each trunk served as a blank canvas for 200 different artists to personalize in their own way. Each trunk, room, and section had its own vibe and story to tell. All different mediums were used — there was collage art, digital art, a trunk that functioned as a record player, and even one made of balloons! I loved seeing how one seemingly simple concept was interpreted and transformed in so many different ways.

What I Wore

To roam around the exhibit, I wore a denim dress from Eloquii (similar), tights from Snag, and platform Reebok sneakers. I accessorized with silver hoop earrings and a white shoulder bag from Amazon. I was going for a casual-chic vibe. Plus, it was a pretty comfortable outfit — which is always one of my main goals when I know I’ll be walking around the city for a while.
