Hi Barbie! It’s very much been a Barbie summer and with the movie finally releasing ā and breaking multiple records btw!! ā this cultural moment doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon. I’m sure at this point you’ve seen countless TikToks and Reels of all pink outfits. But, as a plus size woman, I have noticed less people in bigger bodies hopping on the “Hi Barbie” bandwagon. Don’t get me wrong, I know there are still plenty that are! But, when I posted a Reel showing off some of my plus size Barbiecore outfit ideas (which was an exciting partnership post with Love Your Melon) I even received a comment that said, “Love to see us fluffy girls in on the trend ššø.” Which, same!
And of course, if there is a true lack of plus size girlies participating in the Barbie trends, then it’s probably because Barbie at its core has always represented a very thin, very white, very stereotypical kind of beauty. Without giving too much away, the movie definitely does address that and try to combat it in multiple different ways, which was refreshing and powerful. But, that still won’t change every person’s association with Barbie as a brand. In addition to that, there are still SO many brands offering cute, trendy, Barbiecore pieces that just don’t offer plus sizes (Zara, for example). Which can also be discouraging.
Because of these things, I want to encourage more plus size baddies out there to unapologetically dress up in their best pink outfits and share their Babiecore moments! And if you’re unsure of what to wear or where to start, here are some of the plus size Barbiecore outfits I’ve worn recently.
What I Wore To See The Barbie Movie
I decided to go all out and have a Barbie fangirl moment when I went to see the film. The sheer Barbie printed top is one I’ve owned for years, so I obviously had to pull it out my closet. It’s from a past Forever 21 x Barbie collection. The pink dress is from Target and it actually came as a layering piece under a printed sheer dress. But the color was so perfect, I decided to restyle it. The black skirt attachment is from Tamara Malas. I always get compliments on the shoes but they’re actually another old Forever 21 find. And the Barbie visor is from Love Your Melon.

Special Event Barbie
I wore this vibrant look to my cousin’s baby shower in June. I love this scuba bodycon dress from Good American. The white top I layered over it is from a small Black woman-owned boutique called Access Denied. I found the sunglasses in-person at another small boutique (but there are similar ones on Amazon). The choker is from from Amazon, the fun statement bag is JW Pei, and the white kicks are Steve Madden.
Streetwear Barbie
Because I’m a streetwear lover, this is probably my ideal kinda Barbie. The pink is more of a rose gold, so it’s not your traditional Barbiecore, but I think it still totally fits the vibe for Barbie summer. The dress is super comfy and so stylish ā it came with the shrug attachment. Both the dress and sneakers are from adidas. I’ve been seeing so many fun, cute things on adidas lately! If you’re into more style-meets-comfort looks like this, check out their running shoes, sweatshirts, and even their golf clothing for a similar vibe (they have quite a few pink options).
Birthday Party Barbie
For my friend’s birthday, we had a Barbie-themed girls’ night with games, cake, pizza, and wine. I wanted to be comfy, but still give Barbie vibes (of course). Luckily, I found the perfect flowy pants at TJ Maxx. I paired them with a white bodysuit from Shein and pink sunglasses. I just through on some comfy slides since we hung out inside the whole time, but if I was to wear this out I’d probably wear some chunky white sneakers or platform sandals.
Beach Barbie
I recently wore this to the beach and I’m obsessed! The one-piece swimsuit and sheer pants are both from Venus. I feel like this look really marries Barbiecore and mermaidcore in the most fun way possible!
Brunch Barbie
Very fittingly, this look was worn to the Malibu Barbie CafƩ experience in New York City. The dress was thrifted, the tie-front top is from Shein, the heart-shaped sunnies are Betsey Johnson, and the sneakers are New Balance.
Casual Barbie
This is more an everyday, running errands kind of Barbiecore look. I paired some denim shorts with a bright striped knitted tank from Target and my Barbie hat from Love Your Melon. Although you can’t see them very well, I’m wearing an older pair of pink adidas sneakers.
Y2K Barbie
This is a fun way to switch things up if you don’t want to go for a solid pink look. This swirl print has shades of pink in it, but it also has some blue and orange mixed in. I could totally see Barbie wearing something like this, especially for a nostalgic early 2000s vibe. I wore it to an event in the city I attended with my friend. The set is from Shein, the sunglasses are a TJ Maxx find, the bag is from Amazon, and the platform sandals are Steve Madden. BTW, mesh and matching sets are majorly on trend this year.
Museum of Ice Cream Barbie
I wore this look when my friends and I went to the Museum of Ice Cream in NYC. It’s pretty much all pink inside of there, so it was the perfect backdrop to rock another plus size Barbiecore outfit. The printed dress is from Target and the sneakers are from a DVF x Sketchers collab. And the fun pom pom hair ties are from Amazon.
Press Event Barbie
This look is actually from last year, but I had to include it because I wore it for a Y2K-themed press event and it 100% passes the Barbiecore summer vibe check. As I mentioned above, the top is from Forever 21. I believe the pink blazer is from ASOS. The leggings are Good American and the sneakers are Retro Air Jordan 11s.
