In August, I attended Afropunk for the second time. It was in Brooklyn and the vibes were great. My friends and I saw performances by Teyanna Taylor, Joey Badass, and more. Last year, I did two group costumes with my girls and they turned out amazing. This year was a bit more last-minute. As someone who sadly didn’t attend Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour, I really wanted to do my own metallic space cowgirl outfit. And Afropunk was the perfect time to rock it.
Plus Size Space Cowgirl Outfit
Although this look was put together last-minute, I really like how it turned out! My metallic slip dress is from Skims, the mesh black shrug is from Shein, and the tights are from Snag. But, the standout piece was definitely the bedazzled cowgirl hat. It was custom made by my good friend Anuli for a previous photoshoot. I was so excited to wear it out. And for the rest of my accessories, I added some cool reflective sunglasses from Forever 21, a metallic purse (similar) from Forever 21, some black ruffle socks (similar), silver jewelry, and my Moschino sneakers with metallic details.
The hair and makeup was simple, but still a lot of fun. I brushed out my curls so my hair was big and poofy. Some large rhinestone hair clips helped keep my hair out of my face. For makeup, I went with a strong silver cat eye and a glossy lip.
I think the space cowgirl trend is great because not only could I have worn this to a Beyoncé concert, but it ended up being perfect for a music festival! This is also a fun theme to try for a bachelorette party, birthday party, or even a Halloween costume.
