Fuchsia Highlights for Spring

Fuchsia Highlights for Spring

I like to change my haira lot. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve damaged my hair over the years from all of the bleach and heat, but I never seem to learn my lesson. I just love having fun hair! Plus, I’m extremely fortunate in the fact that my hair always holds up really well and bounces back really fast (I know this isn’t the case for everyone). At the beginning of the year I decided to dye my hair all black — back to my natural color. I felt like it was a fresh start to the year and a nice way to enter my 25th year of life. However, come March, I was already itching for something new.

Last week, I decided to do something I rarely do: I went to the hair salon. I usually dye my hair myself, but I figured it was about time I splurge and have a pro fix me up. I was home in Michigan, visiting my family, and I made an appointment at a place I’ve been to a few times before. Tricho Salon, which is located at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, is a bit expensive but they usually do a pretty good job, so I trust them. My hair stylist and colorist was Angela Schiller and she was such a delight!

Angela was sweet and very polite. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I go to the salon and people get annoyed because I have thick, curly hair. I know it is very time consuming, but I also spend a lot of money! Angela was not annoyed or rude at all. She was actually excited to work on my hair! I could tell she was passionate about her work.

I went in asking for blonde highlights; however, we ran into an issue. Since I had dyed my hair bright red last year and then just put black over it, the bleach was turning my hair light pink instead of blonde. Angela warned me this could happen (she was very smart about her craft). Since she had already warned me, I wasn’t upset at all. She offered to give me auburn or burgundy highlights and I was okay with that, but then, she jokingly said “Well, unless you want pink!” Ummm, yes please!? I was actually so excited about that idea! So, I told her to go for it.

Angela loved the fact that I was easygoing and down for a fun color (little did she know I’ve had purple and green hair in the past.) She added some peachy pink to the toner and processed it twice to even it out. The color came out a bright pinkish-red… and I think it’s great! Very bright and fun — which is exactly what I wanted for spring.

After the highlights were finally done, Angela gave me a blow out and a trim. She was the very last stylist at the salon and she didn’t complain one time. My appointment started at 4:45 p.m. and lasted until about 9:15 p.m. My total for the highlights, cut, and styling was $240, plus I tipped her generously. My hair isn’t what I had in mind, but I don’t have one single complaint. Angela was amazing and my hair is ready for the warmer weather!
