NYFW Review: REBECCA MINKOFF Spring 2020

NYFW Review: REBECCA MINKOFF Spring 2020

On Saturday, February 8, at Chelsea Piers, Rebecca Minkoff presented her Spring 2020 collection of women’s and children’s clothing and accessories. When walking into the room, I could definitely feel the springtime vibes. And the theme of the collection tied in perfectly to the flower pedal-filled room. “Rebirth” is all about exploring and celebrating womanhood. The collection showcases everything from flowy dresses to leather jackets to fun, printed children’s clothes. The happy, yet stylish mommy-and-me park date vibe felt like a breath of fresh air.

The very wearable pieces were a mixture of edgy, playful, and chic. And I’m not just talking about the women’s clothing. As a mother herself, Minkoff has decided to launch a children’s line called Little Minkoff. It uses technology and artificial intelligence to make the line sustainable and eco-friendly. And as stated on the Rebecca Minkoff blog, “no piece of clothing gets made until you click purchase.”

Not only does this display a sense of responsibility for such a major brand, but it also shows that Minkoff is ahead of the game. She also decided to ditch typical Fashion Week protocol of being six month ahead of season, and present a spring line. This means you can actually shop the collection right now. This pushes forward the more modern fashion structure of “see now, buy now.”

Minkoff’s innovative and modern approaches to fashion, along with quality wearable pieces really make this a successful collection. From a bright pink blazer to a chic tan jumpsuit, the collection had daily pieces and statement items. Her theme was clearly displayed and the items are things that both a stylish working mom could wear, as well as a single 26-year-old like myself.

Inclusivity Check:Ā This presentation felt a bit more inclusive than others I attended due to the fact that there were pregnant models included. There were models of color, visibly black and Asian, but sadly no plus models. Most pieces in the collection go up to a size XL or 12, so I’d love to see that expanded in future collections.
