I have wanted to check out The Foundation Hotel for a while now. I heard it was one of the best places to stay in Detroit. I stayed at The Shinola last January for my birthday, so I wanted to see how this popular spot would compare. Since it was New Years, they didn’t have any suits available, so I got a double room. The price was higher for New Years Eve, so it was definitely a pricey night. But, I will say that the hotel was beautiful and charming. The Detroit Foundation Hotel is actually the former Detroit Fire Department Headquarters, so it has really unique architecture and design. The lobby, restaurant, and rooms have a historic touch, while still feeling chic and modern. It’s definitely a place I would visit again and recommend to others.
Dinner at Savannah Blue
After checking in at the hotel, my friend Leah and I had dinner at Savannah Blue in Downtown Detroit. They have northern soul food and cocktails. We ordered mac and cheese, greens, sweet potatoes, and crab dip to share. And I had a pear martini to drink. It was all delicious!
New Years Photo Shoot
Leah and I bought a bunch of balloons and decor from Party City and Target so we could create some ~iconic~ New Years content. She wore a stunning gold fringe gown and I was decked out in silver. We shot in the hotel room, the hallway, and at the bar. The pictures came out amazing, if I do say so myself!
Drinks at The Apparatus Room
The Apparatus Room is the restaurant bar located inside of the hotel. It has a vintage, yet modern feel. If you’re going to sit down and eat, you have to make a reservation. But, we just sat at the bar for some drinks. They had a great cocktail menu and the bartenders were super nice.
Video Games & Takeout
After a few drinks at the bar, we went back up to the room for a chill night. We played Mario Party, ordered food from a local Coney Island, and toasted at midnight. It was a really nice way to bring in 2022!
