April 2018 Favorites + Reflection

April 2018 Favorites + Reflection

Although we’re already well into May, I wanted to make sure I still got up my April favorites! I’m so behind because last month was super busy. I went to Michigan, attended BeautyCon, and moved into a new apartment! April was a hectic month, but really great and I’m so excited to share a little bit of it with you guys.

April Favorites:

Beauty products: I still haven’t been wearing a lot of makeup lately (mostly out of laziness). But, with so many fun events last month I did have a few on fleek makeup days. For my aunt’s birthday party I wore the Fenty Beauty “Uncensored” Stunna Lip Paint and it lasted all night long with no touch ups! It’s probably the best liquid lipstick I’ve ever had. I also used the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer a lot last month either on its own or layered on a matte lipstick. It’s so good. I think I sense a Fenty Beauty “first impressions” post coming soon.

Movies: I saw Blockers with a couple of my good friends while I was visiting Michigan. I enjoyed it — it was really funny and also had some sweet moments. Towards the end of the month I went and saw Amy Schumer’s new movie I Feel Pretty. I have some conflicting feelings about that one. I think if it’s taken for what it’s meant to portray then it’s funny and cute. However, I do feel like it really misses the point of body positivity and it has a lot of problematic aspects. If you’re interested in what the critics think, The Guardian did a pretty good analysis of how the film falls short. On the other hand, Rolling Stone points out some of the film’s positives.

TV Shows: I continued watching Boy Meets World throughout the month and I’m now on season 6. It’s so cute and funny, I laugh almost every episode. But, I will say that I cried when I had to relive Shawn’s dad passing away. 🙁 I also watched a little bit of Queer Eye on Netflix and I think it’s adorable.

Songs: If you know me through my social media or IRL then you know that I STAN Nicki Minaj. So, of course, last month I obsessed over her two new singles. “Chun Li” and “Barbie Tingz” display everything I love about Nicki: her raw punchlines, idgaf attitude, creative visuals, and boss mentality. I’m so excited for her album Queen to drop on June 15!

Places: I did a lot of stuff in April, but one of the best things was attending my aunt’s 40th birthday party at home in Michigan. It was at The Royce Wine Bar in Detroit and you can read about my experience and see pictures here. I also attended BeautyCon NYC at the Javits Center! Which you can read about in my last blog post. I also went to a pretty nice Home Goods event for work where they served us wine and hors d’oeuvres while we browsed their new products. All of their spring decor was gorgeous! You can see a picture in the Snapchats below. The rest of my month consisted of packing and moving. I was staying in the Bronx with a friend, but now my best friend and I have our own apartment in Queens… FINALLY!

April Reflection:

As I already mentioned above, April was a pretty awesome month for me. A Gatsby party, a beauty festival, and a new apartment! Me and my BFF Kailena have worked towards finding a place pretty much since we moved to the city almost a year ago. Thanks to me getting a real job the previous month (#blessed), I was finally able to get approved for a place with Kailena and have our names on the lease! It’s in Long Island City, which is right inside Queens, only about 20 minutes from Times Square. Our commutes to work are amazing, the area is cute, and I feel pretty safe (which is important in a place like NYC). I’m incredibly excited about it.

I am so happy and grateful for all of the growth I’ve experienced the last couple months. With my new job and apartment I’m feeling very content — and boy is it a nice feeling! My next step is to just continue exploring NYC, build a comfortable and creative living environment in my new place, and make the most of my time.

Here are a couple of stories I loved doing last month at work:

What was the most fun thing you did last month?
