Last week my grad school program ventured to the Big Apple for a cultural immersion. It was probably one of the best weeks of my life. I know that sounds dramatic, but as an arts journalist, it was a total dream come true to be able to do all the things we did. Here is a rundown of the places we saw and things we did:
- Stayed at the The New Yorker Hotel
- Saw “Blueprint Specials” on the Intrepid
- Ate dinner at Taboon
- Ate lunch at Má Pêche
- Networked with alumni
- Attended the New York Philharmonic open rehearsal at the Lincoln Center
- Saw “The Front Page” at the Broadhurst Theater
- Ate dinner at Sardi’s
- Saw “Hamilton” at the Richard Rodgers Theater
- Attended a taping of the Harry Connick Jr. Show at CBS Studios
- Ate lunch at Tacombi Nolita
- Saw the “Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest” exhibit at the New Museum
- Saw “Waitress” at the Brooks Atkinson Theater
- Met with New York Times writers/editors and sat in on the daily cultural editorial meeting
- Ate lunch at Sylvia’s Famous Soul Food Kitchen
- Saw the “Circa 1970” exhibit at the Studio Museum in Harlem
- Apollo Theater tour with Mr. Billy Mitchell
- Saw the “Black Fashion Designers” exhibit at the Museum at FIT
- Workshopped my writing with a New York Post staff writer
- Ate lunch with the professional writers/critics at Trattoria Bianca
I will be posting reviews of a few of the things I saw soon! If you have questions about any of my experiences then comment below or email me 🙂
xoxo, Kayla
