How to Wear the Colorful Camo Trend

How to Wear the Colorful Camo Trend

Trends come and go, but one in particular that always seems to come back around is camouflage. Camo print is often associated with military or hunting, which makes the print especially common around Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and all throughout summer and fall. According to a Fashionista article written earlier this year, “camouflage is back and more versatile than ever.”

Which leads me to one of my favorite takes on the classic trend, bold and colorful camo print. This has been seen a lot in street fashion over the last couple years. I like that it’s kind of an oxymoron — putting a bright color on a print that is traditionally meant to blend in. I’ve seen girls on Instagram posing in camo print that’s bright purple, pink, blue, orange, and yellow.

Here’s a look at Rihanna (a fashion QUEEN) rocking the trend in 2017.

How to style colorful camo pants

Similar to Rihanna’s look, I wanted to let the pants be the focus. I mean, when you’re wearing something that’s bright and bold, you’re not going to want to overload it with more prints and colors (at least not most of the time). Although a plain black or white top will almost always work, I decided to wear a plain T-shirt in the same color of the camo pants.

I love a good monochrome moment! But, it can be helpful to break it up a little, and that’s why I added a dark denim jacket. This is a great way to off set all of the color while still focusing the look on the the pants.

For my shoes, I chose one of my simple staples. My Baron Air Jordan 9’s are one of my favorite shoes because they’re super comfortable and go with almost anything. Obviously the shoes can make a big difference. By choosing these sneakers I was definitely going for more of a chill vibe. But, if you wanted to wear this look out for some drinks you could easily throw on some black heels or booties.

Lastly, for the accessories I wore a black belt and yellow hoops. This extra touch works if you happen to have earrings in the same coordinating color (which I randomly did have). But plain silver hoops would have been a good option too.

As for my hair, I went with the simple half-up ponytail because it’s kind of sporty, but still cute. It also keeps your hair out of your face in the hot weather. For my makeup, I focused on earth tones. The brown lipstick doesn’t technically “match” the outfit, but it doesn’t distract from it either and it still gives the face a bold look.

These basic styling tips can also be applied if you’re wearing a colorful camo top or jacket. If you’re wearing the print on top, then go with a solid color on bottom. Maybe black skinny jeans or a denim skirt. Keep the color scheme simple, so it doesn’t look overwhelming with the print.

What do you think of this trend?
