Five Years in New York City

Five Years in New York City

As of late June, it’s officially been FIVE years in New York City and six years of living in New York State. The other day someone asked me what my favorite state I’ve traveled to so far is and I said, “I honestly don’t think I’ve found anywhere I love as much as New York.” This city is busy, expensive, dirty, and definitely hard to live in sometimes. These rent prices are out of control, the rats and cockroaches are the stuff of nightmares, and almost every cute or trendy spot is hella crowded. But damn, there is so much MAGIC here!

There are a million places to go and see any day of the week. You can enjoy any kind of food your heart desires. And you will encounter every type of person. No one cares how you dress or how you speak. Living here, you deal with the most humbling experiences, as well as the most outrageously fabulous ones. It’s hard to put into words for those who haven’t experienced it.

Although I’m often thinking about where life will take me after NYC, I’m sure as hell enjoying it while I’m here! I’ve experienced So. Much. over the last five years: Broadway shows, parades, rooftop parties, fancy brunches, meeting celebrities, sitting front row at fashion shows, writing for major publications, dancing all night until the sun comes up, meeting new friends, making six figures in my dream career, and so, so much more.

Detroit raised me, but NYC definitely made me. I would not be who I am today without New York. Not even close. I don’t see myself living here forever, but I don’t plan on leaving yet. I still have more to do and I’m not done with New York yet. She’s one of the greatest loves of my life. She’s a lil’ toxic, but she’s worth it. Not to mention, New York has transformed my content over the years and has helped me improve in everything I enjoy from my fashion choices, to my writing, to my photography skills.
