Fairy Picnic For Black Fae Day

Fairy Picnic For Black Fae Day

The second Saturday in May is Black Fae Day, a holiday created to celebrate Black fantasy lovers and cosplayers and create more representation for them in mainstream media. This was my first year celebrating it and I got to enjoy a beautiful fairy picnic hosted by one of my best friends, Anuli. My friends and I love to dress up and have fun (we had a Barbie picnic last summer), so I knew this would be a great event. Anuli handmade huge flower decorations, bought cupcakes from a Black-owned business, put together goodie bags, and did a fabulous job of bringing together Black fantasy lovers in New York City.

The picnic took place on a Sunday afternoon in Central Park, a week before the official Black Fae Day. People arrived dressed up as faeries, fawns, witches, and other magical creatures. We ate, talked, took pictures, danced, and some people even painted and drew. It was truly magical to have such a fun, carefree gathering with other blerds (Black nerds) who love to dress up.

What I Wore For The Fairy Picnic

My look was kind of a mashup between Tinker Bell and Aisha from Winx Club (the cartoon version). My dress and crochet shrug are from Shein. I borrowed the wings from my girl Leah V. The chunky white sneakers are from Steve Madden. And I got the glasses, flower crown, face jewels, and hair piece from Amazon.

Here’s a list of the products I used to create my fairy makeup look:

Happy Fae Day!
